Thar Desert Rajasthan

The Thar Desert , also known as the Great Rajasthan Desert, is a large, arid region in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent. With an field of more than 210,000 sq. km.(77,000 sq. mi.). This is world's seventh largest desert. This lies mostly in the Indian state of Rajasthan, and extends into the southern portion of Haryana and Punjab states and into northern Gujarat state In Pakistan, the desert covers eastern Sind province and the southeastern portion of Pakistan's Punjab province. The Cholistan Desert adjoins the Thar desert spreading into Pakistani Punjab province.

Thar Desert Rajasthan is bounded on the northwest by the Sutlej River, on the east & on the south by the salt marsh known as the Rann of Kutch (parts of which are about every time included in the Thar), & on the west by the Indus River. This is boundary to the very largest thorny steppe to the north is ill-defined. Depending on only what field are included or excluded, the nominal size of the Thar can vary significantly.

Thar Desert supports vegetation consisting of mainly stunted scrub and a few sporadic trees. Gum arabic acacia and euphorbia on the hills and khajri (Prosopis cineraria) tree in the plains are some other vegetation in the desert. Black buck and chinkara (gazelle), amongst animals and francolin, quail and great bustard, amongst birds can be seen inhabiting this region.
